Children’s book author
About me
I write lyrical stories that spark curiosity about our world – inviting kids to explore nature, care for the planet, and celebrate the ways people connect through culture and the outdoors. I hope for my stories to encourage families to learn, grow, and adventure together.
I grew up in Colorado where I was skating on the pond outside our apartment when I was 3 years old and skiing at our local mountain where my dad taught. My childhood memories revolve around carefully picking up crawdads in just the right place so you wouldn’t get pinched, camping trips with ghost stories around the fire, and exploring as far as I dared to go on my bike (which I often pretended was a horse — and still sometimes do!)
In books I loved the adventure and independence of the Boxcar Children (see the pic of me in the hammock!) and dreamed of living the pioneer life with Laura Ingalls.
In my 20’s I taught English in Spain, and fell in love with a tall dark and handsome Spaniard. We started rock climbing around the Picos de Europe in northern Spain and continued climbing after moving to Colorado. Tucked in the seatback pocket of our Volkswagen Eurovan were notepads filled with poems I wrote capturing moments in time in these magical places around Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and South Dakota. When our daughter came along, and I began reading picture books to her, I wanted to use my passion for writing to create stories that would encourage families to get outside! I like to think the adventure doesn’t have to end when you come in for the night. Many of my stories are inspired by my time outside with my spirited little girl reliving my own childhood through hers.
Me as a kid, hiking and camping with my parents, and reading the Boxcar Children in a hammock at our campsite :)
